Key Staff Additions

RJ Austin has been named the new Head Golf Pro at Stowe Country Club. RJ will lead the operations team at Stowe Country Club sharing Stowe Mountain Resort’s hospitality with the local community and our visitors.

RJ Austin was born in Berlin, Vermont in 1968 and raised in Moretown. He is the sixth generation of Austin's to live in that town. In 2004 RJ started as a golf professional at Sugarbush Resort, where he began the process of becoming a class A PGA professional.  After graduating the PGA of America Program in 2010 with the help of his mentor and coach Ron Philo Jr., he was named Head Golf Professional for Sugarbush Golf Club and later in 2011 named Vice President and Director of Golf and Fitness there.

During RJ’s 11-year professional playing career he’s been a consistent performer in the Vermont PGA Events.  With five wins and countless runner-up finishes in the VT Chapter of the PGA, his love of the game has never waned. This passion carries his management style and commitment to sharing his passion with all those who enjoy the game.

Topher Harlow returns after a year at Lake Mohawk in New Jersey.  He is joined by Paul Moore of London, England via Jupiter, Florida.  Paul most recently spent summers working at Metropolis Country Club in Westchester, NY.

We are also excited about the change to the Club’s Food & Beverage Department. The Stowe Mountain Club opened the new Alpine Clubhouse this past winter and added some very talented team members to run the private dining and both will oversee Stowe Country Club’s day to day food & beverage program.

Chris Stephens joins the Club’s Leadership Team after serving as Executive Chef at Carnegie Abby Club in Portsmouth, Rhode Island.  Chris has a plethora of experience at some of New England’s more notable establishments including: Menton, a Relais and Chateaux Property in Boston, MA, and Number 9 Park Street.  He is a native New Englander who grew up in Nashua, New Hampshire and earned a B.S. in Culinary Arts from Johnson and Wales.  Chris has already hit the ground running, building menus and sourcing ingredients.

Marc Wilkins is most recently of the Talisker Club in Park City, Utah.  Prior to Talisker he spent time at Baker’s Bay in the Bahamas.  He is a native of Arizona and with the exception of Baker’s Bay he has spent his career in the West. Marc is an avid skier and alpine enthusiast, and he claims to be a “satisfactory golfer.”  We look forward to having him on board to lead the Stowe Mountain Club Dining and Clubhouse team with whom he will share his experience and expertise in Club Hospitality to build on the wonderful service they have been working to provide.
Sophia Stokes will lead the service staff and oversee the front of the house. Sophia has been a member of the SMC hospitality team for three years and is a pleasure, always smiling, and welcoming.  She has years of experience in food and beverage both at Stowe Mountain Club and many popular hang out’s in Stowe.  Sophia’s focus this summer will be to bring our service standards to new levels.  Our F&B team is proud to have her and she will look forward to getting to know each and every one of you!
