Event Update & Results

What an exciting month it's been. There are a lot of results to report on starting with the Women's Classic that was held on June 18-19. The event was a huge success and we managed to grow it slightly from the previous year. The winners of the Championship Flight was the team of Stowe's own Jena Wood & guest Carolyn Romano, followed by the team of Josie Herrera & Dana Cassidy. First Flight winner  Sue Bagley & Dixie Mercier with runners up Polly Manosh and Tracy Webster. The combined 27 hole gross winners was the team of Josie Herrera and Dana Cassidy with the net 27 hole winners Kerry Sedutto and Judy Riboloni.

Thank you all for playing.

The 49th Kirkwood was one of the best in recent memory. The terrific playing conditions and a fabulous stretch of weather made for some enjoyable days on the course. Thursdays qualifying round saw the Medalist honors go to Stowe Mountain Club's Dwight Fortenberry and his partner Chris Bremer who shot an impressive 65. After Thursday's better ball qualifying round the event moves to match play and the 128 player field was divided into 8 flights; the Championship flight contains the low 16 qualifying teams and the 2nd through 7th flight contain 8 teams each. Besides Dwight and his partner, other notable Stowe members who qualified for the championship flight   included Rusty Newhouse and his long time partner AJ Shinners as well as Tyler Mumley and his brother Cullen.

The 2nd Flight had the only father-son team of Chris & Lynn Altadonna. The 3rd Flight saw Stowe's own George Spraker and guest Jamie Barre, Mike Eagan and Mark Plummer as well as flight winners Bob Davidson and his 'palimino' from out of town Billy Andrade. The 4th Flight featured Jim Mogan and his guest Tom Kristiansen, Brent Libby & Michael Priestley, and eventual flight winners Andrew Ziminsky and John Clark. The 5th Flight had staff Member John Tewhill who was able to get Stowe Mountain Club's 2015 Club Champion David Kalil to fill in for his brother who had to back out at the last minute. The 6th Flight saw Karl Behrend and his guest John Harden, as well as Paul Jones and Kevin D'Arcy, Stu Baraw and Tom Brock. Last but not least, the 7th Flight saw Stowe Jack Patten and guest John Merrill as well as Ed Stahl and Reid Williams.

We thank you all for playing. The Kirkwood is main fundraising effort for Stowe JR Golf which was able to grant 10 local children scholarship memberships to Stowe CC.

The July 4th Member Social was literally a record setting event. Over 100 players and guests joined us for a beautiful evening filled with golf, camaraderie, BBQ, and of course fireworks.

The Field was so large that we ended up using the front as well as the back 9 and had two divisions. In the Stars Division, the team of David Kalil, Sarah Kalil, Lynn Altadonna and Chris Altadonna scored 37 points, narrowly beating the team of Mike & Kelly Hickey and their guests Chris and Pam Eaton and the 3rd place team of Anita and Ezra Beinhaker, Alice Zelman and Stowe Assistant Paul Moore.

The Stripes Division saw the winning team of Pat Rahilly, Brendan Rahily, Helena D'Angelo and guest Mat Roy score the highest score with 38 points. Followed by Jay Mireault, Mark Plummer, Tom McNair, Scott Griffiths with 37 points. 3rd place went to the team of Ken & Lisa Burlinson and their guests Scott and Ashley Conley.

July 4th also marked the day where Stowe's PGA Director of Golf and Stowe Mountain Club's Manager Ron Philo take on the Herculean effort of his 108 holes of golf on Rt 108 to raise money for the Fold of Honor Foundation.
Last year members and guests help the resort raise over $5000 for Fold of Honor. You can donate too by calling 802.760.GOLF (4653)
