Phenomenal Phinish at New England PGA Senior Championship

Stowe Mt Resort Director of Golf Ron Philo Jr. shot a final- round three under par 67, to finish the NEPGA Senior Championship, at six under par with a total net score of 134, to win the championship trophy at the Okemo Valley Golf Club in Ludlow, VT. “I’m proud to have brought the trophy here to Stowe for the next year, thank you to my team back at Stowe Country Club and Stowe Mountain Club for your support as I went to compete,” Ron Philo commented.

If anything was to be learned from the New England PGA Senior Championship, it’s that experience is key. With the final day wrapping up on Thursday 8/4, all of the golf professionals, many of which who have 30 plus years of golf experience, took on the tough play the field built from the first day. However, only some were able to capitalize on their first round successes.

Philo was atop the leaderboard at the end of Wednesday’s round. He came out on Thursday with his experience playing in national PGA events and his experience playing the Okemo Valley course. This experience helped him greatly in his round. He made two birdies on the fourth and fifth holes, and one bogey on the seventh to close out his front nine. On the back, he birdied the 10th and 14th to finish again with a 67, and finish the tournament at six under par 134.

Many of the New England PGA professionals were also using the NEPGA Senior Championship as a qualifier for the Senior Professional National Championship at PGA Golf Club in Port St. Lucie Florida on November 17-20. Ron Philo was also already exempt through his wins in the Professional National Championship.
