A Golf Channel Academy Tip from Ron Philo Sr: Posture

Effective posture in preparation for your full swing has many similarities with other sports. I like to think of posture as the readiness position, the preparation for movement. Golf swings have us moving in both directions in less than two seconds making this preparation significant. A stable base is a great place to start. A stable base will establish our ability to freely move both left and right and can be accomplished through our stance width.

A stance with minimal width may encourage a wobbly foundation. A stance with great width may reduce the ability to move from one side to the other during the transition from backswing to finish. Considering the above mentioned items experiment to find your most effective width.

Posture also includes a considerable bend forward from the hip joints. This bend forward should be enough to allow your arms to hang freely from your shoulders, making freedom of movement easier to accomplish and all…

Dog Daze Wednesday, July 19th we are going to the dogs!

Join us at 6:00pm for a 6-hole par three the likes of which you have ever seen. We will construct a unique 'course' that you will only need a lofted iron to play...that's right one club. Also, leave you golf balls at home, we will be using something a little more dog friendly. Free dog bones and Blue ribbons for all!
Double Tee Starts Beginning July 1, we will be running double tee starts off the 1st and 10th tee from 7:50am to 10:00am; this will effectively double the amount of morning tee times we are able to take and will allow passholders to make tee times during this time without restriction.
The 50th annual Joe Kirkwood Memorial Tournament We’d like to wish huge thank you to everyone who came out to the 50th anniversary of the Joe Kirkwood Memorial Tournament. It was a fantastic event with an incredible turnout from our community. Congratulations to our 2017 Joe Kirkwood Memorial Champions, Dean Ferrara & Rob Tedoldi, who finished the championship flight with a score of 42!
Play was conducted using a Modified Stableford Scoring system.

The Championship Flight (and First Flight) played both Saturday and Sunday at Stowe Mountain Club. All groups teed off at 8:30 a.m.

The eight teams that accumulated the most points during Saturday’s 18 holes established the Championship Flight, the remaining eight teams became the First Flight.

For the Championship and First Flights, scores earned during the first round were used to establish flight position and not carry forward to Sunday’s play. Flight winners, runner’s up, and third place will be determined based upon the final round s…
U.S. Sr Open There’s never a dull moment during the summer at the Stowe Country Club!
Let’s continue to make the 2017 golf season one to remember, starting with showing our support for golf director, Ron Philo at the 38th US Senior Open.

Tomorrow, Friday, June 30 at 12:55, Philo will tee off from the first hole at the 2017 U.S. Senior Open at Salem Country Club in Peabody, Massachusetts. Ron left for Salem Tuesday afternoon, and played a practice round with PGA Tour legend Tom Kite prior to the event’s kick-off.

"To be able to have the opportunity to compete in the National Championship is one of the highest honors and privileges that you could have", said Philo. “So, to be able to represent Stowe, Stowe golf, Vermont, Vermont golf and all of New England golf it's truly an honor that I'm looking forward to share with everybody."

Ron has competed in eight major championships, including a U.S. Open, and more than a dozen events on the PGA Tour. Previously winning …
